Further to previous discussions about it being a good year for Sphegina, I found a female S. verecunda in my house late last night - it was crawling over the carpet upstairs. From a distance I thought it was an ant Shocked , but it keyed out this morning to verecunda.

I've seen verecunda a couple of times before, but both on SSSIs, not in my house! We're on greensand on the edge of the Chilterns, with no woodland nearby (although there are thick hedges and small streams fairly close to us).
