I went up to the Mull of Galloway over the bank holiday weekend - nice and sunny but jolly windy. It was really hard work because the area really is not great from a recording viewpoint. Even so, I managed 28 hectads and around 340 records. Not bad numbers for 3 days recording but very disappointing in terms of what was flying. Nothing of any real significance - the best bits were Portevinia maculata (3 sites), Brachyopa scutellaris 91 site), Epistrophe eligans, Criorhina berberina, Sericomyia lappona and Orthonevra geniculata.

I know now hy this area is pooprly recorded. It will need a further visit to have any confidence that coverage is reasonably ok - maybe I'll get these squares to 25 species with that effort. Anyone else fancy taking on one of these difficult areas? There are pleny of them.

Regards

Roger

I note from the coverage map that there are a number of squares in or around the Torphins, Ballater , Aboyne and Banchory area I would be happy to visit these to collect specimens/records.

Hi Brian

It would be great if you felt inclined to adopt some squares - that would be a great help.
