Hi Folks

This morning Stuart and I took a look at Bedford Purlieus - lots of Epistrophe eligans, Syrphus ribesii, Platycheirus albimanus etc and ONE Rhingia rostrata - a male.

Last autumn I took R. rostrata at another part of this wood and this latest capture suggests that it is well established. I wonder how many other woodlands in eastern England now support this species - well worth a look - any brightly coloured Rhingia deserves a look.

I'll be interested to hear of more records

Roger

The other Rhingia you caught and I pooted was a male R. campestris, I saw one other specimen at a bluebell flower - don't know which one.

I caught a reasonable sample of Syrphus and they were mostly S. ribesii, but there were a couple of S. torvus amongst them.
