A total novice at hover flies but think I had a Volucella zonaria in my Kettering, Northants garden yesterday on Buddleia.
I would be grateful for confirmation or guidance if I am wrong.
Thanks for your help.
By the way, I seem to be unable to attach a photo. If somebody can help that would be great.

Hi Phil
V.zonaria & V.inanis seem to be having a good year if my patch of Norfolk is anything to go by.

Unfortunately you have hit the attachment brick wall on this site. Dipterist's Forum & Dipterist's. info work just fine. The only way you will get a pic on here is to post it to another site and provide a link
Regards, Neil

Thanks for your help, Neil.
But it looks like I hit the same brick with Dipterists' Forum.
Maybe something to do with the guys I have building a wall outside my office window?
Is there an email address I can use, do you know?
Phil

Sorry about the upload problem - a recurring and currently insurmountable issue until we re-write the website!

Yes the post on DF website looks good for Volucella zonaria. When was this please Phil and any chance of a 1km grid ref please?

Thanks Roger.
The hoverfly visited the garden briefly on Sunday, 27/07/2014.
Grid ref: SP853788.

Thanks for your confirmation. Quite a spectacular beast!
