Hi all,

Not overcrowded with hoverflies in Jersey at the moment although V.bombylans, pellucens and zonaria are in reasonable numbers.

But this one I am stuck on I think itís a Eristalini poss arbustorum. I know itís not the best photo or angle but can anyone help me out.

Thanks

Simon

Hi Simon,

The stigma visible on the right wing looks small to me, suggesting nemorum. The abdomen markings fit female nemorum well (see account on page 291 of Stubbs and Falk 2002.

Regards,

John

Thanks once again John and Nigel, I have the Nov 2002 Stubbs & Falk and still seem to get it wrong, still practice and then practice some more.

It doesnít help that all it does in Jersey in rain at the moment. Sad

Thanks again

Simon
