Hi again
I've had no luck with my first 2 postings so I thought I'd try another one Smile
I'm a complete novice having only been looking at hoverflies for 3 weeks but I've already found 14 different species in my garden in Cumbria & am looking forward to next spring & my copy of S&F !
When I saw this one I didn't think it was tenax or pertinax as the overall impression was that it was smaller & rounder. Also the front & middle tarsi are dark & there are no hairy eye stripes.
I wondered if it could be interruptus ? I believe the stigma could be OK but I've no shot of the face to see if there is a dark stripe.
Any comments would be very welcome.
Peter

Hi Peter,
It looks like E arbustorum to me!
I think that the Stigma is a bit too extended for E interruptus,
and your first photo shows little evidence of a facial stripe,
which would normally be fairly clear from that angle,
I hope that helps,
All the best,
Mick Parker

You might say you’re a novice at hoverflies but by the look of these photos not photography these are spot on. Very Happy
